Course Description
NOTE: CLASS ENDS AT 8:30PM!!
Spend the evening with a Cemetery Historian. Using hundreds of photos taken by the author from cemeteries throughout the world, learn to interpret the lost language of the cryptic signs and symbols found on the gravestones of our ancestors. Years ago, most everyone knew how to read them. Now, the language has all but been lost. Just as symbols today are used as a type of "shorthand" for information, graphics on gravestones and monuments tell if the deceased was religious, a member of a fraternal organization or religion, had a sense of humor (or not) or was worthy of love and respect. While symbols on gravestones may appear to be simple, there is often a deeper meaning to them. The history of graveyards and cemeteries will also be discussed.
